Gridfinity Screwdriver Rack

One of the coolest discoveries on the Internet that was introduced by the fine folks in the Maker’s Corner Telegram group is Gridfinity. There are a ton of videos buy the creator, Zack Freedman, of the various cool things he has done with it. For more information on that breaks down the philosophy read this article here:

In short, this is an organizational system with an almost “Lego Like System” of standards that allows you to access your parts and tools in a modular organizational system. What interests me most is that I am constantly shifting what I think I need and as a consequence need to move things around and also easily access the parts for which I am looking. There are a lot of possibilities with all of this.

I found a great screwdriver storage system for my little screwdrivers that are often used but I needed to make it slightly better so I added a base to it as a guide to hold the tips in place.

The original design works great for the particular screw drivers as shown but mine would wobble around or fall outside of the confines of the rack itself.

Rather than redesign the base, I thought I would just make an insert for it that sits within to catch the screwdrivers and hold them in place.

The result is basically perfect for my needs. It holds everything just as I would like and I don’t have anything walking about or leaning inconveniently. I also happen to like the way the colors of this thing work out too. The bottom of this is black along with the vertical supports while the guide top and bottom guides are yellow. I really wouldn’t change a thing here.

You can find my “remix” design along with the original here:

Final Thoughts

Gridfinity is brilliant and has made for an organized way to organize my workbench, tools for my 3D printer enclosure, desk and really a whole lot more. Maybe it is because Lego has influenced the idea of having a system for everything or this is just the way I like to bring order to the chaos around me, but I truly couldn’t be much happier than what I get with Gridfinity and all it provides or enables.

Gridfinity, it’s pretty rad! More to come on this whole thing in the future!
