Let’s face it. You are not going to use your computer for just being productive. There are times you are going to want to watch a movie or maybe even go to a video rental store or kiosk and watch a movie… Who does that anymore when you can stream, right? Well, I do and therefore this is important to be able to do… for me… and maybe for you too.
If you intend on playing or recording any form of media on your Linux Box, it is necessary that the base multimedia codec packages are installed to basically play all your favorite videos with VLC.
Download YouTube media for local playback in the application of your choice.
Transfer audio from CD to mp3, Ogg, flac or other formats of your choosing.
Currently, this is not necessary but previously, Adobe had stopped supporting the NPAPI plugin framework and only builds Flashplayer against the PPAPI. Current versions of Firefox now support the PPAPI extensions. I am leaving this here for Firefox versions before 52.
