I have been having issues with the Google Groupware Calendar module in KOganizer not remembering how to communicate with Google. I was very frustratingly having to connect it with KOrganzier but there is an easy solution.

Kontact with its Kmail and Korganizer components. To me, this has been the ultimate in calendar management. It is far better than any online calendar system. The next closest application is a tie between Thunderbird and Outlook as far as functionality. Maybe there are some others but I just haven’t been a fan. I wanted Kontact to be back in my good graces, so I once again have worked at searching the Internet for a solution, and I FOUND it here on a Fedora forum.

In short, the solution to have proper integration of Google Groupware the package that needs to be installed is kio-gdrive. Once this is installed, Akonadi can continue to keep the the local database in sync with the Google Groupware database.
Interestingly, this isn’t required for email synchronization which makes me wonder just a bit.
From the package info:
Google Drive KIO slave for KDE applications. KIO GDrive requires a KIO-enabled file manager at runtime, otherwise there is no way to setup a Google Drive account. This can be Dolphin or Gwenview.
On openSUSE Install:
sudo zypper install kio-gdrive
I don’t know if this is installed by default on other major KDE Plasma based distributions like Fedora or Kubuntu and others but it should be and if you are having issues with this on your system, this just may be the solution for you.

I have submitted a bug with openSUSE on this so hopefully this can be fixed for future users.

Final Thoughts
Kontact truly is the best User Experience for managing personal information, mail, calendar, tasks and I think it has the potential to be even better with some sort of other note taking application. In my mind, I am thinking some thing more modern to replace the Journal system for tracking task completions, but outside of that, the other things this does is simply fantastic.
I think, what would make Kontact even better is to have some more flexibility in mixing the modules together in ways that works best for your workflow, such as, Email, plus calendar agenda for that day plus a task list box. 🤔 It would be pretty cool, for sure.
