C64x

A computer I also refer to as a Commodore 64 Impostor. Like the Commodore 64, it has all the necessary components in one case; plug in the power supply and a monitor and you are ready to have all the computing fun you can imagine.

CPU

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor

Motherboard

Gigabyte X570 I Aorus Pro Wifi

I would caution against using this motherboard for this case. There are some modifications that may void warranty that were necessary for me to complete the assembly. The key here for using the CPU with the Vega graphics is having the X570 chipset. Alternatively, use an Intel based system with integrated graphics.

Cooling

Low profile CPU Cooler

CPU Fan: ID-COOLING IS-30 Low Profile CPU Cooler

Rear Case Fan: Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX 3-pin, 40x10mm

Right-Side Case Fan: Noctua NF-A4x20 5V PWM, 40x20mm

RAM

32 GiB (2x 16 GiB) DDR4-2400 RAM

Storage

Primary: Mushkin Enhanced Helix-L M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe

Secondary: Netac SSD 1TB

Future Upgrades

Change out the CPU fan with a Noctua fan with the intent of reducing the fan noise. Replacing the 40x10mm rear case fan of the computer significantly reduced the fan noise.

RAM upgrade to 64 GiB so that it is truly a “Commodore 64.” There is a lack of USB ports and card readers on this computer so there will be an accompanying Commodore 1541 Impostor that has USB ports, and additional storage.
